Traditional comfort food packed with fall flavors – this healthy take on Czech apple bread pudding is the perfect treat for the season.
This Czech apple bread pudding (called “žemlovka” in Czech) is a very popular dish in my home country. It’s a sweet treat made of slices of bread soaked in a vanilla-laced milk mixture and a juicy apple-cinnamon filling.
You simply layer everything in a dish and then bake all of it till the apples are soft and the bread golden and crispy on top. It’s a great comfort food that makes your home smell like Christmas came early! Some people also like to add a cream-cheese-like filling to the apple one – I totally love this twist so I’m going to show you how to do that as well.
You can throw some walnuts and raisins into this bread pudding too if you’re a fan. I went all in today because I love my “žemlovka” with all the goodies inside ;)…
