This refreshing melon blueberry smoothie is packed with superfoods and actually works as an all-natural energy drink.
I created this drink when I was in the final stages of writing my master thesis. As you can probably imagine, I was freaking out and needed a serious energy boost.
In moments of weakness like that, I have a nasty habit of turning to diet coke and other artificial drinks (anyone with me here?). But this time, I was determined to find a healthy alternative. So here it is.
Inspired by chia fresca (water mixed with chia seeds) and fruity smoothies, I came up with this delicious melon blueberry smoothie. Not only does it taste great but it also fills you with energy and helps your immunity manage stress thanks to all the wonderful healthy ingredients inside.
Seriously: blueberries, melon, chia seeds, matcha and ginger tea. How good for you can it get?
Blueberries have always been my favorite fruit, which you might have noticed based on the amount of blueberry-themed recipes on the blog :)

It’s a happy accident these berries are so amazingly healthy on top of their exquisite taste. They’re packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber as well as huge amounts of antioxidants that help boost immunity and protect you from diseases.
Melons are a very healthy fruit group as well and a very tasty way to stay hydrated in the summer. I like to use honeydew or Piel de Sapo (Santa Claus melon) in this smoothie but any melon will work.
Matcha is another amazingly healthy ingredient, an energy-boosting superfood in fact. And I wrote a whole article on the health benefits of chia seeds. In a nutshell, they’re totally awesome and help you think better.
For bonus points, use cooled ginger tea for anti-inflammatory effects or green tea for more energy in this drink. But water or coconut water works great too.
So if you have a lot on your plate right now and need some extra kick without all the chemicals in conventional energy drinks, this melon blueberry smoothie is for you. It definitely worked for me! Even my fiancee felt like he was more efficient at work after a glass of it for breakfast.
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth.
- Adjust sweetness to taste and pour into glasses.
